Frame Relay

The Frame Relay protocol has been designed for optimized information transport between Local Area Networks. This protocol is supported on high reliability physical digital circuits and its intrinsic automatic bandwidth management capability makes it a very efficient protocol for the secure transmission of Voice and Data.

The implementation of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connecting the different enterprise sites allows the interconnection of LANs, Data Servers and Private Exchanges through a single digital access of the Oni Communications network.

A Permanent Virtual Circuit (PVC) is created for each access / site according to a defined set of service parameters:

CIR (Committed Information Rate)
CIR is the customer contracted bandwidth for data transport always guaranteed in Oni Communications’ Frame Relay network.
EIR (Exceeded Information Rate)
EIR is the non-contracted bandwidth available on best effort basis for customer traffic.
Access bandwidth to the Frame Relay network and the CIR / EIR parameters are defined according to the specific needs of the required services in each of the customer sites.

Benefits
High network throughput due to the low processing requirements
Lower cost solution when compared to leased line alternatives
With dynamic bandwidth allocation the customer can have higher bandwidth availability than the contracted
Configurations using higher granularity in terms if access and speeds allow the design of better fitted solutions
